If you have ever wondered if those Guinness Book Word Records were created by those with unique talents only or ordinary people, look no further than Bowie, Texas a town with a vision and a plan to make something great.
A few years back, the town of Bowie decided they wanted to make their mark on the world, and what better way to do so than to create something which would leave a legacy for all those coming from the community to call their own. But how do you accomplish something of this magnitude?

A few years back, the town of Bowie decided they wanted to make their mark on the world, and what better way to do so than to create something which would leave a legacy for all those coming from the community to call their own. But how do you accomplish something of this magnitude?
Well it all comes with a little planning and a whole lot of vision. The idea circulated that it would be an astounding legacy to follow their namesake honor and plant a huge Bowie knife just inside the city limits for those from all around to come to town to see. It would be bigger than any knife anyone had seen, it would be a knife for the record books as the community rallied behind the construction of a 20 foot Bowie knife which would weight over 3,000 pounds.
It's something straight out of the folklore as the giant knife was finally commissioned and planted near the city park and rodeo facility to welcome all those wishing to venture into Bowie. But the feat would take some years and a lot of dedication as funds would have to be raised to construct such a project, much of which was privately funded.
Now only a small visit away from those at Guinness, I guess one can look on and see that World Record are usually those planned by the average person or persons just looking to go the extra mile!
